Join us for Ash Wednesday

Message from Revd Dr Andrew Warmback

It is on Ash Wednesday, 26 February this year, that the church begins its Lenten journey to Easter.  It is called Ash Wednesday because during the service ashes (made from the Psalm Crosses used the previous Psalm Sunday) are blessed and placed on people’s foreheads as a sign of repentance.

On this first Wednesday in Lent and on every other Wednesday leading up to Easter we will hold services at 7.00, 13.00 & 18.00.

The Collect (prayer) from our Prayer Book that we use on Ash Wednesday sets the tone for these next six weeks:

Almighty and Holy God

your Son, in obedience to the Spirit,

fasted forty days in the desert:

give us grace to discipline ourselves

that we may press on towards Easter

with eager faith and love;

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

Amen

May God bless you during Lent.

Yours in Christ

Andrew Warmback (Revd Dr)
