Letter from Revd Andrew to the People of St Pauls 22 January 2021

Greetings in Jesus’ name!

Patronal Festival

It is good to celebrate in the midst of struggle.  This Sunday we celebrate 172 years of mission and ministry from our church.

The online service for Sunday illustrates the collaboration that took place between various St Paul’s Churches in ACSA.

Tributes

One of the ways in which we process our grief at the passing of those close to us is to talk about them.

I share the tributes offered by the Mothers’ Union for two of their members for whom we held funeral services on Saturday and Sunday this past week.  On our St Pauls website we include pictures.

Thoko Elizabeth Gumede

Ntombi Bhengu

On Tuesday this week the Bishop of Swaziland in Eswatini, Rt Revd Ellinah Wamukoya passed on.  I write the following about Bishop Ellinah for us, which is on our website.

With the broader ecumenical family of Durban the Co-adjutor Archbishop of Durban, Abel Gabuza, passed on on Sunday and Monsignor Paul Nadal yesterday.

Contributions

I invite parish members to write something to contribute to this communication.  It could be a story about how you have experienced during the pandemic or what you have learnt.  It is good to celebrate one another.  You may be offer a poem or some other creative contribution.

Reports for Vestry

Another reminder that reports for our Vestry meeting are due in at the parish office at the end of next week.   It is suggested that the following format be followed:

    • The meetings and activities held during 2020
    • The achievements
    • The challenges encountered
    • The lessons learnt
    • The plans for 2021

 Giving

We give thanks to those who have returned their giving envelopes for the past few months. Thanks too to those who are giving into the loose plate collection when they attend services. We are grateful to those who have continued to give their Planned Giving directly into the church bank account and to those who have also given loose plate collections and donations in this way.   This enables us to continue to pay staff salaries, our assessment and most of our accounts. Please continue to give. (The St Paul’s banking details are: Account Name: St Paul’s Church; Account Number: 50854628623; Branch Code: 221426; Bank: FNB.)

God bless you and your families in the New Year.

Yours in Christ

Revd Dr Andrew Warmback

Rector: St Paul’s, Durban
