Dear People of St Pauls
Services on Sunday
We will resume services at 7.30 and 9.15 this Sunday 1 August.
August is the Month of Compassion and Women’s month.
We need to keep in mind that KZN, especially, is not out of the woods as far as Covid-19 is concerned and we need to continue to be extremely careful.
A reminder that if you attend a service you will need have your temperature and contact details for tracing purposes taken; you will need to sanitise your hands before entering the church and before receiving communion (the bread); the social distance indicated on the seating must be adhered to and that you will need to refrain from singing. (According to Provincial Anglican regulations issued by the Archbishop)
It is not necessary to book to attend a service. In keeping with lockdown regulations no more than 50 people may attend at a time.
We continue to encourage our members to be vaccinated against Covid-19.
Aftermath of Looting
We continue to try to make sense of what has happened in our Province and Gauteng a couple of weeks ago. For some these event have been a challenge to faith. Where was God in all this? The looting and destruction have certainly caused distress for many, especially financially. As a parish we will do what we can to try to assist parishioners who have been hardest hit. We too need to work at the structural injustice of inequality, hunger and poverty which leads to such actions.
Confirmation 2022
As our diocese will be receiving Bishop Nkosinathi soon (see below) we are hoping we can have a confirmation service early next year. Those who would like to join the confirmation preparation classes, which will be mostly online, are to please inform one of the clergy or to contact the parish office by Friday 6 August. In keeping with diocesan policy, candidates must be at least turning 15 years of age this year, or older. An Application form may be found on our website.
New Rector for St Faiths
Earlier this month Revd Nkosinami Nkomonde moved to St Faiths from St Katherine, Port Shepstone. We welcome him and his family to our Archdeaconry.
Bishop Elect Natal-Installation and Assumption of Episcopal Duties
We received the following message from the Provincial Executive Officer: “Kindly be informed that the Metropolitan, His Grace The Most Revd Dr Thabo C. Makgoba has prayerfully scheduled the installation of Bishop-Elect Nkosinathi H.C. Ndwandwe as Bishop of Natal for Saturday 11th September, 2021 at 10:30 am.
Bishop Nkosinathi will duly commence episcopal ministry in the Diocese of Natal on 1st September, 2021. Immediately after 11th September, 2021 Bishop Nkosinathi will take compassionate leave or the ‘biblical wilderness leave’ to step back, recoup and plan for some time. Thereafter, he will fully start on 1st October, 2021 respectively.
Please note that it is Archbishop Thabo’s intention that both Vicars General Bellina and Ndabezinhle continue as co-Vicars and lead the Diocese with the Archbishop and Sandra [Madovi the Diocesan Secretary] until Bishop Ndwandwe takes his rightful place. Meanwhile, please pray for the Diocese of Natal and for Bishop Ndwandwe and his family.”
Diocese of Swaziland Elective Assembly
We are asked to pray for the Elective Assembly of the Diocese of Swaziland which will be convened on 4 and 5 August to elect a successor to the late Bishop Ellinah Wamukoya, who passed on from Covid-19 complications. The nominees are the following: The Revd Charles Mhlaba Kunene and the Very Revd Advent Nhlanhla Dlamini.

Giving
We are grateful to those who have continued to give their Planned Giving directly into the church bank account and to those who have also given loose plate collections and donations in this way. (The St Paul’s banking details are: Account Name: St Paul’s Church; Account Number: 50854628623; Branch Code: 221426; Bank: FNB.)
In this ongoing Covid era we encourage parishioners to give through debit order and EFT’s rather than by cash, if at all possible.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)
Yours in Christ
Revd Dr Andrew Warmback
Rector: St Paul’s, Durban
