The Passing of Archdeacon Thami Tembe’s father

Archdeacon Thami Tembe’s father passed on on Wednesday this week. As St Pauls we offer our condolences and prayers for Fr Thami, his mother and his family at this sad time.

Pentecost Offering (Pentecost Day is 5 June)

This is an opportunity to show our appreciation for Revd Martin Brower’s ministry among us. New Assistant Priest

As announced last Sunday Bishop Nkosinathi has appointed an Assistant Priest, Revd Bruce Woolley, to St Pauls from 1 June 2022. Revd Bruce is currently rector of All Souls, Umhlali and is director of Growing the Church. He is married to Revd Buli (Bulelwa) Sihlali-Woolley who is an Assistant Priest at St Martin-in-the-Field,
Durban North.

Buli is the Deputy Director of Sharing of Ministries Abroad (SOMA) and also serves on the Board of Growing the Church. They have a daughter Zoe (Zoliswa) in Grade 11. Both Bruce and Buli have wide experience in training in
Southern Africa in various areas of church growth including children’s, youth, leadership and spiritual development. We look forward to these gifts being shared among us. Please pray for this family as prepare to welcome them. Revd Bruce’s first service at St Pauls will be on 5 June.

Kerr House AGM

The 71st Annual General Meeting of the Durban Hospice for Women (known as Kerr House) will take place on Wednesday 25 May at St Cyprians Church, 603 Umbilo Road, starting at 12.00. As St Pauls is a half owner of this shelter we invite our members to attend this AGM.

Ascension Day Services Thursday 26 May

The combined Archdeaconry Service will take place at St John the Divine, Clark Road at 17.30. the Preacher will be Revd Michael Fourie of St Thomas, Berea. For those who are unable to make the evening service we will be holding a service at St Pauls at 10.00am.

Servers at St Pauls

We are grateful for the growth of our servers’ guild at St Pauls and the work of Owethu Ndaba in training and organising its members. The have expressed their thanks for the recent donation of cassocks from our Mothers’ Union. Following a recent Archdeaconry Servers’ Conference there will be a meeting of servers and all parents of servers at St Pauls on Saturday 4 June at the church from 12.00-13.30. All our servers will share in the Archdeaconry Ascension service.

Use of name tags in services

Parish Council has recently approved what was planned before Covid-19 the use name tags in services. At services please give in your names at the desk on the sheets provided so that the name tags may be typed up. They will be given out at services and are to be returned at the end of the services. The intention is that they are used to
helps us to get to know one another better, starting with learning each other’s names.

Anglican Communion Sunday 29 May

Next Sunday is Anglican Communion Sunday and our lectionary also marks Africa Day this week. Reflecting our continent’s rich diversity of language we will ask people to offer the peace in different languages. You are also invited to dress appropriately on that day!

Bishop Elected

The newly elected Bishop of Namibia is Revd Patrick Djuulume. Please pray for the Bishop-elect, his wife, Hilma Johanes Djuulume, their family and the Diocese as they prepare for his consecration.

To the People of God – Ad Laos – Easter 2022

The Archbishop wrote a letter to the Laos people of God this week. It may be found  hereAmongst other things he writes: “I will be taking sabbatical leave from June 1 until August 15, including time at the Lambeth Conference, during which Anglican bishops from around the world gather at Canterbury in the UK…. I will be reflecting, reading, resting, writing, walking, gardening, praying and enjoying time with my family, at home, in Makgobaskloof, in KwaZulu-Natal, Joburg, Makhanda and abroad.

He concludes: “In your prayers for global peace on Ascension Day, please spare a thought for peace in Ukraine and all those affected by that conflict, even as you pray for peace on our continent and other continents, as well as for Palestine and Israel.
